Professional

About Caroline

I'm new to the Seattle area, and am originally from New Jersey. I met my husband through my undergrad university's juggling club, and we are recently married. His job in the tech sector brought us to Seattle. I'm a die-hard hockey fan and hope Seattle gets its own NHL team someday soon - in the meantime, I'll cheer on my NJ Devils. In my spare time, I dote on our puppy - he's one year old, and always up to some kind of hilarious mischief. I also juggle, watch hockey (of course), and practice martial arts.

Interest and Experience in Education

My interest in education was sparked by a decade of teaching children's karate, and a stint as a tutor during the summer in undergrad.
Teaching karate was my first experience in education, and it was an "ah-ha" moment for me. I was 14 when I first started teaching, and I had not expected to enjoy it, and was very afraid at first. Initially I had only started teaching because it was a requirement for black belt. As I continued teaching, I realized I loved helping students steadily improve and overcome obstacles and struggles. The opportunity to teach became a rewarding experience, and the reason I came to karate each week.
My summer tutoring experience helped me to realize I could teach in an academic environment as well as an athletic one, and I began to consider teaching as a profession.
My path wandered and was unclear as an undergrad, and I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. When my husband and I moved to Seattle, it was a fresh start - and I took the opportunity to pursue education as a career. I prefer working with older students (though little ones are fun too), and so I decided on high school history and social studies.
